Create Consultancy Ltd was established in 2004 by Niamh Fitzgerald and has quickly built a reputation for reliability, professionalism and expertise. We have particular experience in information & resource design and development, child and youth health improvement/promotion and youth friendly health services; research & evaluation as well as subject matter expertise in areas such as alcohol and substance misuse, mental and emotional health, sexual health & relationships and brief interventions on alcohol.

WIGAN - Mainstreaming Identification & Brief Advice (Alcohol) – NEW PROJECT

Create have recently been commissioned for the next 18 months to develop and roll-out a new and exciting brief intervention project across the Borough of Wigan in the North West of England. Working with a wide range of key partners and stakeholders Create will set out to embed and mainstream the provision of alcohol ‘identification and brief advice’ across key statutory and voluntary services.

Scottish Healthy Care Network

Create continue to support the development of the Scottish Health Care Network in Scotland. Steven McCluskey, Create Consultant was asked to present at the networks recent national network event & AGM in Edinburgh on the 3rd December 2009.

Ending Violence in Relationships - New Work by Create

It recently announced that school pupils in England aged five to 15 are to get compulsory lessons in the government’s strategy to tackle violence against women and girls. Create have recently developed a number of lesson plans around the themes of domestic violence, teenage abusive relationships as part of our SHRE development work.

According to the new government strategy, lessons will by adapted for different age groups and teachers will be required to undertake further training to ensure the can effectively assist girls they identify as being affected.

Respect Me – Anti-Bullying Conference

Respect Me, Scotland’s Anti-Bullying Charity recently held their 3rd annual conference in Glasgow. The event was attended by Susie who returned thoroughly enthused and keen to think about how our expertees at Create can support this work. Over the past year the Create team has grown! At the end of 2008 Steven McCluskey joined as a full time consultant followed closely by Susie Heywood who took up the post of Administration and Research Assistant.

Brief Interventions Conference - INEBRIA 2009

The International Network on Brief Interventions for Alcohol Problems (INEBRIA) held this year’s international conference in Newcastle/Gateshead earlier this year and Create staff were in attendance. The programme was wide and varied and included presentations from various leading alcohol researchers and policy makers both from the UK and internationally.

Youth Health Services Review Presented at World Health Organisation Conference

Our recently published report “Cross-Cutting Issues – A Review of Youth Health Services in Glasgow” which was commissioned by East Glasgow CHCP was recently presented as a case study at the recent World Health Organisation event in edinburgh which was hosted by NHS Health Scotland. The event was a 3 day gathering of European experts to look at ways of improving health services for young people.

Scottish Journal of Residential Childcare (SJRCC) – Special Health Edition

The SJRCC is published jointly by the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow and the Scottish Institute for Residential Childcare. Steven McCluskey, Create Consultant was very happy to be invited as guest editor for this special health edition of the Journal. Steven said “ The Journal provides an important forum for residential childcare staff and others to reflect on policy, practice and training and research within the context of their daily practice with young people.
