Ask About Alcohol: Brief Interventions Training for Pharmacy Staff in Wigan and Leigh

The ‘Ask about Alcohol’ project is an alcohol brief interventions initiative from Create Consultancy.

Alcohol Brief Interventions in Pharmacy

Niamh is just back from London where she (and nearly 100 others) attended the first ever conference on alcohol brief interventions in pharmacy at King’s College. An interesting day which further developed our knowledge of what works in terms of ABI in a pharmacy setting based on the experiences of a project in Lambeth. Create has a long history of work in this field in Wales, Glasgow and Grampian including implementing the first ever multisite trial of brief interventions in a pharmacy setting.

One Hit Kit Review for Glasgow Addiction Service

Create has recently been commissioned by GAS to report on the introduction of the new ‘One Hit Kit’ by injecting equipment providers in Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Our report will outline the rationale behind the change to the One Hit Kit, the process by which it was introduced, and the views of service users who completed a survey about the new kit.

Communication Skills Research 2010-11

Create is undertaking a scoping exercise for NHS Education for Scotland to explore how health professionals across Scotland learn their communication skills. We are interviewing managers and practitioners in a range of disciplines across Scotland including cancer care, mental health and coronary heart disease. Doctors, nurses, pharmacists and a range of allied health professionals are included. We are also working with patient groups to gather examples of how good or poor communication has affected their experiences of healthcare. For more information, contact Susie Heywood.

Department of Health and Children Drug Treatment Evaluation 2010-11

We are currently evaluating the roll-out of Suboxone treatment in (the Republic of) Ireland. Suboxone is a treatment for opiate dependence and our evaluation involves clients, prescribers and dispensers of the drug, along with an audit of patient treatment records. For more information, contact Dr. Niamh Fitzgerald.

Text 4 U Evaluation

Create was recently commissioned by NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde to evaluate Text 4u – a sexual health information service for young people. The evaluation involved engaging young people directly via an on-line questionnaire and focus groups to ask their views about the service and suggestions for its future development.
