Research and Evaluation
Create have just completed the field work for Clydebank College exploring the health and wellbeing issues of students. The final report for this is expected to be launched in September 2008.
Brief Intervention on Alcohol - Impact Evaluation
Create was commissioned by Monmouthshire Local Health Board in Wales to carry out an impact evaluation of training we had previously delivered on Brief Interventions on Alcohol. The training, delivered by Niamh Fitzgerald in May 2007, aimed to support community pharmacists to become skilled to screen alcohol use and deliver a brief intervention where this use was deemed to be hazardous.
The impact evaluation, carried out in May 2008 by Julie Dowds, involved follow up interviews with the pharmacists involved in the training and explored how many screenings/interventions had been carried out, what had helped/hindered the implementation of the brief interventions and most importantly what learning points could be taken to help shape future developments.

Review of Drug & Alcohol Education
Create was commissioned by Edinburgh City Council Children & Families Department to carry out a review of drug & alcohol education in 5 secondary schools, 5 primary schools (from one school cluster) and 4 youth organisations in the North Edinburgh area.
This involved meeting with representatives from each of the schools & youth organisations to explore their current drug & alcohol education programmes planning, delivery and content, existing gaps, and suggestions for strengthening drug and alcohol education including improved links between schools and youth organisations; and running focus groups with young people to explore their experience of drug & alcohol education and their views on ways it could be improved. A final report has now been provided to the Children & Families Department with key recommendations for taking forward drug & alcohol education.

The Drinking Interventions in Pharmacies Study
This study of brief interventions on alcohol in community pharmacy settings
is now complete. The study, which was funded by the Alcohol Education

shown that such interventions are feasible in community pharmacies.
Research with Children & Young People
Create Consultancy have been commissioned by Greater Easterhouse Alcohol Awareness Project (GEAAP) to evaluate the impact of their alcohol education inputs to primary 6 and primary 7 pupils. Stage one of the research is now complete and involved pre & post questionnaires with the pupils as well as staff interviews and pupil focus groups. Stage two will be carried out between August and November 2008 with the final report expected early 2009.
Drug Education in Schools
In 2003, Niamh was awarded a PhD by The Robert Gordon University for her
